MAKING NUNO Japanese Textile Innovation from Sudō Reiko

Japan House London is a cultural destination offering visitors the opportunity to experience of the best and latest from Japan. Located on London’s Kensington High Street, the experience is an authentic encounter with Japan, engaging and surprising even the most knowledgeable guests. Presenting the very best of Japanese art, design, gastronomy, innovation, and technology, it deepens the visitor’s appreciation of all that Japan has to offer. Part of a global initiative led by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are two other Japan Houses, one in Los Angeles and the other in São Paulo.

During KCAW21, visit Making Nuno: Japanese Textile Innovation from Sudō Reiko. A free exhibition presenting the innovative work of textile designer Sudō Reiko. Known for pushing the boundaries of textile production and championing new methods of sustainable manufacturing, Sudō has been the design director of textile design rm Nuno for over 30 years. Her fabric designs combine craft traditions, new engineering techniques and unusual material combinations such as silk, hand- made washi and thermoplastic.

Produced with the Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile (CHAT), Hong Kong with artistic direction from Saitō Seiichi of Panoramatiks, ve large-scale installations explore the manufacturing processes used and how she works towards a more sustainable industry via materials, regional manufacturing and craftsmanship.
