This is the fi rst UK solo exhibition by art collective Fehras Publishing Practices. They look at the Cold War and its effect on cultural practices in the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa region. The era generated one of the most fertile periods in the history of Arab culture and publishing.
In their photo-novel Borrowed Faces 1, the viewer is transported to 1960s Beirut to follow the story of three women who interact with historical figures and institutions of the Cold War.
Archive displays show Arab publishing culture at this time, including in London in the 1960s, when the city became a meeting point for Arab intellectuals.
Finally a new work responds to the archives of the CIA funded Congress for Cultural Freedom.
