Mon-Wed by appointment
Marie Jose Gallery is a contemporary art gallery and platform representing emerging and mid-career artists from across the globe. The gallery endeavours to act as a platform- a stage upon which the stories of today’s gifted artists can be told, whilst bridging the gap between the physical and virtual spheres of modern experience- connecting people with art from around the world.
As an independent art advisor, Marie Jose Honein, launched into the gallery space in 2020 with a pop-up exhibition to support Lebanese artists - who were devasted by the Beirut explosion and a terrible economic collapse. A portion of the art sales were dedicated to fund relief efforts and humanitarian organisations in Beirut.
Currently on view, Anthropomorphus invites viewers to step inside a mythical world populated by fantastic fauna, flora, and other living organisms - all of which possess distinct human qualities, rendering them uncannily friendly, familiar, and approachable. This multidisciplinary exhibition places in conversation the work of Ivorian painter Souleymane Konate, British textile artist Selby Hurst, and Canadian ceramist Toni Losey.
The Gallery is also taking part in KCAW Poetry Corner: Directed by our communications team member Saskia Jiggens for our 2022 edition, the KCAW Poetry Corner has become a popular element of our programming.
We received a record number of entries this year for our Poetry Corner initiative, demonstrating the enduring synergy between the visual arts and literature. Through an annual Open Call for poets, successful submissions are displayed in venues across the Borough to complement the KCAW Public Art Trail. This year, 30 poems related to our 2022 theme, 'Nourish', are being presented in stimulating and awe-inspiring locations.
