Piers Butler is a painter best known for his colourful abstractions.
He studied at Chelsea College of Art and the Royal Drawing School, and has including exhibitions with the Portobello Group, Serena Morton Gallery, and numerous pop-up shows.
“I see myself as a visual poet. In figurative art I explore portraiture, the nude, still-life and narrative. My inspiration tends to come from the bohemian world that seems to be the stomping ground of the artist. By the use of colour and line I attempt to convey moods and thoughts that are experienced by the over-self.
With Abstract art I attempt to take this further by not only challenging line and colour but also form itself. The viewer is lead into unfamiliar worlds that can lead to altered states.Whilst painting them I find myself stepping into ever shifting fields of colour. Messages and moods have been created that can never be pinned down.”
