Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop invites you to the Open Studio of Stacie McCormick, a multi- disciplined artist normally behind the scenes at Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop.
Stacie McCormick is a multi-disciplined artist, normally behind the scenes and focused upon running artist-led Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop. The Art Week presents an exciting opportunity to see her work and get an insight to her studio and painting practice.
McCormick’s work follows the principle of discovery by manifesting the accident within the abstract and gestural arena. Working mainly on paper and canvas, her practice is a methodology of getting out of the way, the removal of thought and watching the materials take over. An exercise in allowing, with self made squeegees and brushes, into a place of conjuring the moment as a gesture. The latest body of work is an exciting shift embracing colour with a new exuberance and freedom, yet all the formal aspects she has been utilising are still present. With an insistent and repetitive practice, McCormick knows her marks and solidly investigates the how the accident and the planned can play on the canvas.
Also during KCAW20, visit the open studio of Marco Bizzarri, the current Solo Resident, and IMPROMPTU(S), an exhibition of Juliette Dominati and Clare Burnett, exploring lines between sculpture and painting.
