Kensington Blue Plaque Walk
by Gallery NK
Zone 4 - High St Kensington
Iverna Ct, Kensington, London W8 6TU, UK
Tue-Sun | 2-4pm
Gallery NK invites you to join exhibition curator, Serena Richards on a tour of blue plaques in the area surrounding the gallery.
Through this tour, you will explore the blue plaques of notable creatives who lived and worked in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Specifically looking at artists and writers, this tour runs alongside Gallery NK’s exhibition of Artists and Writers in Residence 2020. The exhibition displays the work of Generation Z creatives who have developed works on the theme of 'civicism'.
The tour explores the impact of the Royal Academy on artists and creative groups that developed within the borough. Including, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and The New English Art Club. We also take a look at the work of writers including James Joyce, Ezra Pound and T.S. Eliot with an interesting insight into the connections between different creatives.
Through an understanding of artistic history, we’re able to acknowledge how our contemporary art has been influenced by these past creatives. However, we also have the opportunity to learn from them and adapt.
