Join a free tour of the Design Museum, the worlds’ leading museum devoted to contemporary architecture and design, and learn about the fascinating history of its building. ​ From Exhibition Road to High Street Kensington, discover the curious story of the Design Museum’s building. These twenty minute tours focus on the history of the museum from its foundation by Sir Terence Conran in 1989 to its move to the former home of the Commonwealth Institute in 2016. The Commonwealth Institute was established, as the Imperial Institute, by royal charter from Queen Victoria in 1888 on Imperial Institute Road (now Imperial College Road) off Exhibition Road. ​ Discover more about the fascinating history of the museum’s building and its key architectural features in this FREE 20-minute tour.
