Maxilla Studio Artist Collective was formed to facilitate a shared space for artists creating artworks across diverse materials, conceptual angles, often defying genres. Weaving Connections is a curatorial theme that seeks to create a cultural exchange between artists and the public, providing a space for new connections to be woven and for new communities of practice to emerge. Intertwining diverse artistic practices and mediums, an art event that brings together artists, local residents, communities, and surrounding boroughs.

 

Historically a communal act, weaving is the ancient process of making fabric by interlacing distinct threads. Metaphorically, it represents the coming together of separate elements into a single, connected whole. This dialogue between tradition and innovation is deeply rooted in the craft: the Jacquard loom (1802), with its punch-card mechanism for storing and reproducing patterns, is widely recognised as a precursor to the modern computer. Yet, while it inspired immense technological advancement, weaving remains a profoundly tactile domain centered on human handcraft.

 

As artists, we weave our unique stories into the work we produce, whether through traditional practices like painting or via emerging technologies, always with the shared aim of forging meaningful connections with the communities that surround us.
